Looking for ideas on how to organize threads. Right now all of mine are in a couple of Ziploc bags. What you got?

I built a shadow box with shelves on it and hung it on the wall. Can move them around and can keep same colors together. Super easy to see when you are close to being out of a certain thread. Keeps the dust off them and out of the way.

Check out what is available to sewers.
A quick search on Amazon returned covered boxes as well as a dizzying variety of wall mount and table top racks.

I use the Rubbermaid drawers, labels on front of drawer for organizing by colors and brand.

I have a thread box I bought at one of the fabric stores on Black Friday many years ago .

From the very beginning, I have always used Plano 360 tackle boxes with separators.

I have a box or boxes for each size thread, and whether it is plain nylon, ncp thread, or metallic thread.
The closed cover keeps the thread clean during times of storage.

Then, I keep all of the plano boxes in a larger rubber main storage box. -- or equivalent.

I use the same size boxes for storing my various guides.
One or more storage boxes for a particular type and brand guide.
One or more rubber maid boxes and all of the materials for rod building is on hand.
Then, I use another one or more rubber maid boxes to store all of my grip and reel seat supplies.

By keeping the various items in the single layer plano boxes with a cover, if one has the misadventure to spill a box, it is only a single box with a single type of components that have gotten spilled.
I will say that this has happened to me only once, but once was quite enough.

Note:
At one time I was given some double sided tackle boxes.
After catching the latch on a seat for the 3rd time in the boat and dumping the contents of 1/2 the tackle box over the floor of the boat, I vowed that after that trip, I would never ever, ever, ever own a double sided box of any kind for storing items.
After the trip, I emptied out all of the several double sided tackle boxes that I owned, threw them into the garbage and replaced them all with plano single sided boxes, kept in a soft sided tackle bag and have never looked back.

It was this principle that gave me the reason to continue using the plano 3600 tackle boxes with covers for storing rod building supplies.

Note:
I also own several sewing machines that I use from time to time for various clothing , bag creation, and boat cover work. Based on my use of the plano boxes for my rod building, I use the same plano boxes to store all of my sewing thread and sewing machine supplies, and then all of the plano boxes in one or more larger rubber maid plastic boxes. Keeps everything organized, and all of the thread and other supplies clean and dry.

Plano 3700 boxes fit 100yd. and 1oz. size spools quite nicely !! Take out all of the dividers and lay the thread in on its side. I use 8 of these boxes and organize the thread by colors.

There are a multitude of boxes and containers out there and the Rubbermaid and Plano are fine examples and work well. I have found “cookie tins” (properly sized of course) to be my choice; while they may not be air-tight, they block-out UV which could fade the thread. And it is very possible you may be receiving a few during the up-comming Holiday season (as long as if you’ve been nice and not naughty).

Plano 3700 sized boxes for me…. And then I keep them in cabinet drawers out of the light

Will hold 28 1oz spools of Fuji or 20 spools of Maderia

I use Harbor Freight storage boxes. They are yellow and black, and sell for about 5 dollars each.
