I have a reel problem. Lol. I have a really nice Garcia Mitchell 488 that I had bought off @#$%& and the base of the case where the reel mounts to the rod was broken when I received it. I have scheduled for a return but really would rather keep the reel if anyone knows of any way to repair or fix it without it looking bad. I don't think it's repairable but the reel has been completely restored and repainted and I figured I would ask before I return it on Monday. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any experience in this matter. Thank you for any input!

if you're going to use the reel there's no way to fix it. If it's only a show piece JB weld will glue the parts together then finish it.

That's what I figured. I very much want to use it as both. I never have a nice anything I'm not willing to use at least from time to time. Was still hoping someone may have come across a problem like this and knew something I didn't. I still have the weekend and am open to suggestions. Thank you for your time and input

From your description, I do not know exactly where the break is on the reel. Alex is probably correct but then, you don’t have anything to lose at this point. Is it possible to hold the broken pieces together enough to drill through both and and insert “splint” of .125in diameter brass or SS rod? Two splints would probably be required to keep the pieces from rotating around a single splint. Use the first splint to keep everything aligned and then drill the second. Just my thoughts.

If you fix it to day an a week down the road it breaks again at the same spot , what do you do repair it again ????????????????????? replace it an get on with life an worry about next time if it breaks

cut your losses. send it back. repairing a broken reel is still a broken reel with patchwork. more fish in the sea.
