Orvis Thread color

Does anyone happen to know the brand and thread color that Orvis used on alot of thier early graphite rods it looks like a burgandy or a deep red,Trying to replace a broken hook keeper on a Powerhouse 8 1/2' 8wt 2 pc
reached out to orvis with no results,alegedly they dont have those records in the rod shop is what I'm being told so any help would be great,Just tying to get it as close as I can,I do have some older Gudebrod threads on hand Re: Orvis Thread color

Rick, it’s probably a long shot that you’ll find an answer to the exact color.
But, give this a shot, get several colors and brands that look close. When you peel off the remaining thread, look at the underside of the thread and try to match it. Another point of concern, given the age of the rod and how much time it has spent out in the sun, there may also be some fading, so getting close may be your only option. There is a pretty decent chance that it is a Gudebrod thread, but many big name companies also used thread that was custom dyed. I’ve run into that with some St Croix rods that I have repaired. I do remember Orvis having rods with a dark red on them, looked like Garnet Regular Nylon, with no color preserver. Good luck. Re: Orvis Thread color

Orvis did wrap some the the older models with a garnet thread. If you have it, try the Gudebrod garnet # 206. If you don’t have it, Fuji, Fish Hawk, and Hitena all have a garnet which are pretty close.
