Fly rod logo

For you fly rod builders, where do you generally put the logo that is already on the blank by the manufacturer in relation to the reel? Right side, left side, bottom, top? It’s a short section and really can’t find a spine on it.

Thanks,
Dave

You can put it anywhere you or customer wants.
To spine the butt (S1) on a 4 pc fly rod:
Assemble butt (S1) and next section (S2) and spine as one.
Mark both sections.
Spine S3 and S4. Assemble all sections.
Spine again all assembled. If the spine off on S3 and S4 - erase spine marks on S3 and S4 and re-spine and mark still assembled.
Many times, one section will influence its neighbor.

Spine does not matter.

Like Herb stated, any position that you want or base it on customer specifications. When a blank is pre labeled by the manufacturer, I typically put it on the top of the blank and my decal will go 180 degrees, or bottom side of blank, unless a customer says do it a certain way.

Sometimes, like in the case of Tom Morgan Rodsmiths or Livingston Rod Co, they supply a round decal or peel and stick label. Depending on the length of the blank, I’ll make a thread wrap some distance from the butt end of the blank, example: 8’-6” 5wt, maybe centered at the 18” or 20” mark and then on the top of the blank. While I think it looks classy, it also serves as a quick reference for measuring out a fish.

If the logo is already on the blank, I put it on the right side with the reel down. In other cases I do not use the manufacturer logo.

The side of the blank should actually be determined by the label itself. It should be easily read from the side with the reel hanging below the rod. If the label reads from the butt end to the tip, then the right side. If it reads from the tip to the butt end, then the left side.
