"Wave" Guides and Reels

While possibly considered off-topic to the status quo “rod building” of this forum, I am seeking advice and knowledge concerning Doug Hannon’s “wave spin” spinning reels. We are all familiar with his revolutionary “MicroWave” guides which is certainly a head-turner, but his wave-spin reels have been delegated to second-billing.
While the unorthodox, convoluted, spool lip was certainly “in-your-face-different”, I just had to try one. It proved to be as advertised and never experienced a spool-loop problem. Casting distance seemed unchanged. I guess my question is that if it is such a great idea, why is it not more prevalent now?

Mark, maybe because most people quickly learn to close the bail by hand a nd not by cranking the handle which creates the loops..

Thanks Mark, I think any innovation in fishing tackle is relevant to rod building. Looks cool, I want one!

Jeffery,
I purchased mine from Cabela’s the better part of 10 years ago. I did a quick search and could not find a place selling them = maybe that is why they are not very prevalent lol = I suppose I could have checked before posting.
ben,
You may be correct.
Lance,
See my reply to Jeffery. Let me know if you find one.
To everyone else,
How many of you have fished a Wave Spin reel?

Apparently, the Wave Spin reels were considered more of a brain-flatulence than brain-storm. I purchased one simply out of curiosity, it worked as advertised (often rare), the reel still works fine after 10 years of moderate use, so I suppose I would purchase another if still available. Thanks anyway, Doug!!! I guess any reference to WaveSpin reels is now delegated to the history books.
