Reel seat size for PB701LXF rod

I usually use the TVS reel seats in 17 size. Would this lighter rod be more suited for a 16 sized reel seat? My last two rod builds have been PB691MLXF and PB691MXF both with size 17 reel seats and using KR Concept guide trains.

Stick with the 17 if you find it fits your hand. The weight difference has to be minuscule and the ergonomic advantage far outweighs the slight weight penalty, if there is one. Even if there is a penalty, with it located at the hand, it is in the least offensive place it could be on the rod. I use no 16's on anything any more.

Thanks. I got real spoiled using the TVS reel seats for all my PB spinning rods
Along with the AR Winn grips, it makes for a great, sensitive rod.

size 17 spinning is fine, that is what i put on my pb7ml and 73ml. i just ran the mvt reel seat on my builds, no foregrips, just a small butt, reel seat and love the way it came out, i wouldn't add any un-necessary weight to it

I'm using the Shimano Vanford 2500 on my PB691MLXF and love it. Does the 701 blank call for a lighter or smaller reel?

Ron,
Whenever I build a rod, I just use the reel seat that will fit the reel that I am going to use. I normally build for a 2500 sized reel and have no issues with fit.

Has anyone actually built this rod? Likes? Dislikes?

Thanks

I have built on and used most of the Point Blank blanks, they have all been great. Have not found one I don’t like. I’m not much of a TVS reel seat fan, I much prefer the IPS or VSS17 seats. I have been using the NFC soft touch carbon fiber IPS grips ever since they came out. They make a very comfortable and durable handle that looks great.

I used the 18H-8H-5.5M KLH guides for my PB691MLXF and MXF builds. As a 7' blank (and XF), would I need more than one KB4 guide?

Norm,

Do the NFC soft touch CF grips require a coat of epoxy?
