Hello all, I was just wondering, Some of the repairs I do, especially saltwater rods, When I go to clean them I either use soapy water or alcohol, but that doesn't always work. What else can Ya'll suggest

Need more information, are you trying to remove stains for cosmetic reasons or are you preparing the surfaces for paint or epoxy application.

When ever I start working on a rod, I always take it to the laundry room and give the rod a liberal spray of simple green cleaner.
In particular, I give a very liberal application to the grips on the rod. Then, using a hand brush and a tooth brush, I give the rod a very good cleaning and brushing with the hand and also the tooth brushes, to be sure that every vestige of anything is wrong.

The simple green cleaner works really well to assist with cleaning up grips of all sorts as well as getting fish scales and deposits of all kinds off of the rod blank and grip.

I very much prefer NOT to use any particular chemical cleaner like denatured alcohol or other such solvents.

I give the rod a good wipe down and then - I prefer to set the rod in the sun for a day or so, to get it really well dried out before starting to do any work on the rod.

I don't normally run into to many stains, mainly to prepare for epoxy
