Reality versus sales hype

Rods don't have any "Power". They have resistance to bending. Rods do not "ADD POWER" to casts - they PULL, not push, your line. Your rod does NOT push the line forward after you release it. Check and see. Is your rod bent backward or forward when you release a cast? If you rod is still bent backward when you release a cast how in blazes can it push your line forward? Advertisers have convinced some consumers that expensive rods cast farther and more accurately than cheaper rods - claims without references, photos, logic, or a shred of evidence. But this nonsense makes some people lots of $ -

From what I have seen and read here, NO ONE claims a rod pushes the line! Good for the people making "lots of $ !!!

Phil: Take a look at past entries and ads that praise the "power" a rod has. We both know that a rod has no more power than what we put into it. No force is created in a cast over and above the force the caster supplies. This force becomes speed. The faster the line is pulled the longer the cast. Ask anybody who double-hauls a fly line cast.

Golly, Phil. The marketing types have to make a buck to eat too.

Careful Phil.

We don't want to venture into the world of politics where every other word spoken by many many folks in the industry speaks with no part of the speech grounded in truth or fact.

So words are use by marketing types to sell products.

But, generally speaking the words do convey a difference between rods. So, if you wear a word filter over your ears - and use your own hands and eyes to check and validate the product you will be money ahead and end up with a rod that satisfies your ever desire.

-------------
I just look at the word issue a bit differently.

You have rods a, b, and c.
If rod b puts more fish in the boat using a particular method of fishing - rod b is a better rod for that particular use - no matter what words might say about the blank.

Marc: Bravo! It's too blessed hot in Florida now for me to enjoy fishing during the day. My apologies, but I worry about a society that can be easily convinced that money can buy performance or excellence in fish poles or public servants.

There are bigger things to worry about than the performance of fishing rods and the hype from some marketers. Pretty evident that many public servants can be bought, some pretty cheaply!

I stick to rods that are "soulful". I'll see myself out now.
