I have used computer generated labels for customer and personal rods. They look very professional. I do appreciate a handwritten "Custom Made for...." with all the wonderful details. I use an old heat-embossing pen in either silver or gold. Not quite as good at is as I once was, and seem to do a cleaner job with fine tip permanent metallic pen/marker. Trouble is, most metallic markers are just a bit too-bold/wide of a line for my liking. What have you found to be about the finest metallic ink/pen for those using handwritten inscriptions?

I just bought a calligraphy pen that was suggested in the other posts. Been playing around with it but “she ain’t purdy”!! I hope it gets better with practice. ???????

My wife does mine, but I use decals mostly anymore. Rest your hand on a spacer so it's in a more natural, level position helps both of us, improves steadiness also.

Just did a rod for a customer that was a graduation gift for his son. He wanted his sons signature on it. So he sent me a high-res photo which I pulled into Adobe Illustrator and converted into a vector format and cleaned up so that I could scale as needed. Then integrated that with some text and printed in gold in clear with a PX800

My wife does all of the lettering. She is an artist and does a great job.

She uses a fine tipped calligraphy pen and nib and Ball Acrylic ink. Perfect every time.

Thank you everyone for the words of wisdom. I looked at all the comments and went back to the Flexcoat pen that I had tried many many years ago, long before the internet. I was not good at it and gave up too quickly. I ordered a new one and picked up some Testers in aluminum, and practiced on a bunch of old blanks. I could not be any happier with how my inscription turned out. It was EXACTLY what I was envisioning.

What made it even better, was when my father saw it yesterday on the Rainshadow Immortal spinning rod I made him for northern Wisconsin walleye. First thing he did was take his new rod to his old fishing partner who is now homebound to show him. My pops has a new dilema...what reel is he going to put on it?
