The Rainshadow Revelation series of blanks have a black finish. Other than that, without knowing how big the catfish are and what else he will be using it for, who knows.
No way near enough information to suggest a blank. Re: Cat fish rod

A 2021 article on Cat Fishing and appropriate rods for different type fish.
In particular read the descriptions of the various rods for the various types of fish to get an excellent idea on the choice of rod blank for your particular build. [www.catfishsutton.com] Remember, a great deal of cat fishing is done with the rod resting in a rod holder. So, for cat fishing the physical weight of the rod and rod blank is of somewhat secondary importance. When catfishing one might make one cast per hour, rather than one cast every few minutes as is the case for some other types of fishing. So, solid fiberglass rods and or fiberglass / graphite composite rods and rod blanks are the general preference for use when building cat fishing blanks. Best wishes Re: Cat fish rod

Could try RodGeeks X-comp Blank. I’m sure you can find one that will fit his needs. A number of cat fishermen like them a lot.

I have built several rods for bluecat fishing using RodGeeks X-comp blanks (love the color options) and they make very good catfish rods. My other rods are built on Seeker Black Steel blanks which have a slightly softer tip than the X-Comps. Both work great for dragging baits and circle hooks. Cant go wrong with either.
