I’ve been making custom handles now for quite some time. I have always used the traditional small aluminum cutting jigs for my cork and found D thread the easiest to slice EVA. I have seen posts on using a small band saw as a more precise way of cutting slices. I have a nice Delta that I’d like to experiment with but would rather not reinvent the wheel if someone has developed something to hold rings easily. I looked through some of the pics in the forum but didn’t see anything. If everyone thinks it’s better to stay with the small jigs, I’m fine with that but it doesn’t hurt to ask, right?

Good luck with the band saw.
I have to be a bit of a naysayer when it comes to using a band saw for this use, since the typical band saw's blade is too thick for my liking. But, give it a go, and it might work well for you. If you have a lathe - and a fine toothed jewelers saw, that might work as well as anything. Mount the ring on a threaded rod, and at the hole in the center of the cork ring - use a piece of copper tubing that is just larger than the threaded rod that you are using. As long as you use modest pressure when using the saw on the spinning piece of cork, the short lengths of copper tubing on each side of the ring should hold the ring from slipping, but the tubing is thin enough so that it has little effect on being able to cut all of the way to the threaded rod when cutting the slices. Best wishes. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
