Has anyone used the Gen 4 epoxy on a white rod? I'm wondering if it has a blue tint to it after its mixed, seems to me that it would. What your favorite finish for non-yellowing?

We used to add a touch of Coast Guard Blue to our white paint to fight yellowing, haven't heard of any epoxy that was tinted blue.

The blue tint is just an aid to let builders know to keep mixing until it disappears , that's it's sole purpose to make sure the hardener and resin is mixed thoroughly enough . I used Generation IV on two separate surf rod builds in the color Alpine White by CTS . Stunning clarity

You're looking at a great thickness when you view through the bottle. Sort of like beer, which appears amber in a clear bottle, but in a thin layer it's clear. It won't be blue. Don't worry about it.

After reading Toms response I thought maybe I'm mistaken about mixing until the blue disappears , I got the info from the below post a while back . Karen from Bingham says both are crystal clear but mix until the blue disappears. I give up



Generation 4, the newest rod finish to come out on the market in years. XAR means Extreme Air Release. This new rod finish being developed will be the end of all air bubble issues that give many rod builders the biggest problems. Mix like any other finish then pour onto foil and you can virtually watch the bubbles release. After mixing gently for about 3 minutes, there were about 8 or so bubbles in the cup. Poured it in a foul dish and let it set for a couple of minutes and not a single bubble left. Bubble free and clear.
Pot life 30 minutes and can be ready for a second coat, in four hours or less depending on temperature.

Blue React Technology. It’s a blue tinted chemical added to the resin to help differentiate the 2 parts because both parts are water clear. Mix until the blue disappears and you are good to go.

This new formula was developed by Andy Dear, who was the originator of THREADMASTER many years ago.

I've been using the Gen 4 for about a year now, that "blue" tint will disappear when you have it mixed. I've also used it in a couple of CTS Shine blanks as well as Natural Fiberglass, it has stayed "clear" just fine so far. The one thing I do notice with the Gen 4 compared to other brands, the luster of the thread is more enhanced in my opinion, the cured product result just looks better.

I seriously doubt any 2 Part Epoxy finish will withstand not going yellow at some point, it will vary by manufacturer and how much it is out in the daylight. While I have not used it, Permagloss, I believe and what I have read will not yellow over time.

So its kind of like beer goggles? LOL

It may well disappear once mixed - I was simply mentioning that looking through a much, much thicker "layer" of epoxy will greatly enhance the slight blue tint, just as it usually does any slight amber tint.

Thanks all. I'm mainly wondering about yellowing on white thread and blanks. I just did a test wrap. It's super thick so we'll see about the bubble release factor. I'm gonna put it out in the sun for a good long time and see what happens.

I did a white test wrap and let it sit out in the Florida sun for a month and it and perma gloss haven't yellowed at all. I did notice the leftover Gen 4 in my cup is much harder and doesn't have nearly as mush flex as pro kote.
