I searched and only found a few posts. I know it's a little off topic but Has anyone made a multi piece wading staff and if so what did you use. I'd like to make one for a customer but not sure what to use.
Thanks as always Mark Re: Carbon fiber wading staff

I've made many of them from some carbon 50lb trolling rod blanks I picked up at one of the very early Expos. But they weren't multi-piece. If the customer requires that the staff break down, you're going to have to come up with a good idea. A standard ferrule won't work for obvious reasons. Maybe the twist-lock collapsable type used on sailboat extendable tillers, but they're made in place so you'd have to source one of those.

Mark,
I do not know how long and/or stout of a staff you are considering but the first thing that came to my pea=brain was a hiking “trekking pole”. Gaffs are usually FG and rather heavy and a stout enough CF rod with a large enough OD on the small end would be quite expensive if you could even locate one. If you can only find a 1-piece tapered staff to your specs, simply make it as many sections as you want incorporating CARL ferrules. One way or the other, it sounds like an expensive staff! Use the same principle as the backpackers folding tent poles, that have bungee cord inside them. You'll have to get a gaff blank and make CARL ferrules and then insert the bungee cord. Dennis J. Danku (Sayreville,NJ) Re: Carbon fiber wading staff

Mark,
Dennis’ suggestion of the bungee cord is a great idea; and the internal spigot ferrule of CARL is tubular allowing the bungee to pass through. Thanks. I was wanting to use bungee and ferrules. I'll probably have to make my own Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
