so im trying the testor enamel paint for marbling and the color looks way too dull and i can see the blank thru the marble is there anything i should be doing with this type of pigments? also using lite build epoxy

Are you pouring off everything but the pigment first?

well im mixing the epoxy and then putting like 10 drops of testor on the epoxy

Check out the article in the library, I use pigments so I have to mix a bit in wrap epoxy, I don't think you do that with Testor's, it goes directly into your finish on the rod by dipping it with a toothpick. Again just the pigment, if your paint is mixed it will need to set till it separates, maybe even a week depending on the paint type. Metallics may settle faster and be easier to seperate.

thank i just read the article on the library it says to remove the solvent but i just checked on it and i see the whole little jar with the same color and no solvent

The pigment will sink to the bottom of the bottle over time. Thats why you stir or mix before painting. You don't want to paint. Let the pigment settle, stick a toothpick in and you'll see a thick gob of pigment on the end of the pick. Gently pour off the stuff (solvent) on top of that pigment layer and marble.

This is a link to a reel seat I marbled wit the pigment from testers, like Grant said you have to let it sit till it separates then drain off the oil leaving the pigment, then mix the pigment with your epoxy.

I don’t understand why rod builders go to the effort of settling pigments and pouring off the solvent in model builders paint when rod marbling dust pigments and liquid pigments are available without being solvent contaminated. These products are available in a huge assortment of colors and inexpensive. You can’t accidentally get too much of something left in that was never put in. Maybe people just like messing with smelly, toxic, solvents and trying to get away with illegally disposing of them.
