I’m working on repairing a center pin float rod. The original tip was the same size 8 spinning guide that the runners were - like a Fuji YOG style. Customer bent and broke it and didn’t like how it originally looked like a broken rod so he temporarily put a standard slide on tip top on. Now the problem is that the line gets wrapped around the tip and causes problems because of the ring height difference.

So my question is, does anyone know of any tip tops that slide on with a tube that have a taller ring? Something to get the line away from the blank, but also look more “traditional” and not be as susceptible to bending and breaking as the single foot spinning guide?

Levi, the original builder didn't do their job right try taking a SV style guide and bending the front single foot backwards so the foot will ride on the opposite side of the blank as the double leg side, now reverse the taper on the foot so you can wrap it like any other guide, much more durable. Frankly, unless he lives in the great white north and fights frozen guides and frozen line to the blank all the time I would talk him into lowering all the tip guides to his tip tops height with single foot ceramic fly style guides, that's the way we do it.

Thanks for the response! I tried to talk him into lowering the tip section of the 13' 4-piece rod down to single foot runners. He was vehemently against that approach as he has other rods like that and has constant struggles with line getting tangled up.

I like the idea of using a double foot and bending the one foot back to help with strength, and it would also help with looks. I'll suggest it to him, but barring that, I'm going to just plan on using the single foot guide he got from the manufacturer as a warranty, and trying to wrap it closer to the actual end of the blank than originally came from the factory, which is what led to him hating it because it looked like the rod was broken.
