Keeping spiral base wrap tight

I have an ongoing problem. I typically make simple diamonds on my base wraps but i always have difficulty keeping the threads tight together. Are there any tricks? Tension?

Thanks

Spacing. Consider if your spacing on the specific diameter blank results in spacing that is compressed, square or elongated. Any elongated spacing will be a bit of a bear to keep the threads tightly packed.

Thank you, the spacing is about 2” (i dont know why or dont have a reason) on a surf rod so the blank is in the vicinity of .75”

You tube has multiple examples of proper layout. Acquiring the rods diameter and taking into account the taper. I'm still learning but it was great information to get me started in the proper direction. Good luck and hopefully you'll see improvement each time.

If your centers are 2 inches apart on a blank with an OD of just .75, then you've got very elongated spacing. Nothing wrong with that, although it definitely will make keeping the threads tightly packed a bit of a chore.

Try lightly "scuffing" the blank where the wrap will be, and increase tension.
The scuffing (roughing up the surface) may help hold the threads where you want them.

Ron....if he has 2" spacing on a .75 blank he has a lot of blank showing at the wrap. Scuffing may be dangerous.

Perhaps after packing introduce a sacrificial locking thread and coat with CP?
