I was wondering if anyone builds their own custom rod tubes, I've done some out of off the shelf PVC but I've been looking around a bit for fiberglass or aluminum and cant seem to find piping/tube with a large enough diameter or wall thickness. Anyone have any leads to look into? Re: Rod tube DIY question

I also looked into making my own aluminum rod tubes. I spent a lot of time looking. I found the tubing at a metal mart type store in my state but it was ridiculous pricing! I never did find the tube ends. I buy my aluminum tubes from a guy in Colorado. They would be simple to make quality tubes if you could get access to supplies. I'm interested to see what you find. Good luck. Re: Rod tube DIY question

I have seen some pretty rod tubes made from PVC and painted with fishing motifs. Re: Rod tube DIY question

Hard to argue with the tubes available from brands like TFO. Re: Rod tube DIY question

what I saw was one made out of lighter color wood , it was a six sided wooden tube , with one end filled in with a block of wood , [ to fit the tube ] the other end was fitted with a larger six sided box to slip over the end
of the long tube the cover was held in place with a leather strap , can not recall where I saw it . hope some other people can fill in the blank spots , [ I hope ] it was on how it was planed an laid out , step by step an put together , I through it was in The Rod maker , could be wrong , getting old William Sidney AK Re: Rod tube DIY question

Mark Crouse does some great work. I built something similar back in 2012. If you have access to the proper tools they're fun to build. 2nd one used rare earth magnets to keep it capped.

Dick, where do you buy your bottom cap and screw lid? I could never find a place to get them. Thanks, Todd Re: Rod tube DIY question

I noticed these aluminum and brass tube caps.
I have no experience with them however, and they do seem a bit small depending on the application, so couldn't say if they would meet your needs or not. [www.flyrodcrafters.com] [www.goldenwitch.com] Re: Rod tube DIY question

Thanks Dick. I buy my tubes from Ron at Landmark. I've been hesitant to ask him to sell me caps thinking he might think I wanted horning in on his business. Thanks again. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
