Spinning rod for Crappie

My nephew asked me to build him a spinning rod for throwing jigs for panfish and to possibly throw small spoons for white bass. He would like for it to be in the 8 foot range. Preferably one piece but two piece would be acceptable. Any suggestions? TIA. Steve

I just built 4 PacBay Tradition 2 SH993-2 rods for crappie and white bass. Waiting for two more of these banks to arrive. They are a medium light 8’3” Steelhead blanks with a fast action. First time I built on them and I was very pleasantly surprised with their lightness, and crisp feel. A real steal for the price.

CTS has a sweet blank:
8'0", 2 piece, 1/16 - 1/4 Oz.
7'6", 1 piece, 3/16 - 1/2 OZ. May be too heavy for his liking.

My favorite crappier rods are light steel head rods. They have enough backbone to cast a country mile, but enough sensitivity in the tip to detect the bites of the fish.

Good luck

A favorite of mine has been in a fly rod blank, 8-9' long , 5 or 6 wt power.
They are soft enough to "lob" out a live bait, and very forgiving with a big fish on light line.
The softer action of the blank helps act as a "shock absorb-er"

Best wishes,
