Of course he doesn't know everything Ben nobody does . He's clearly very very sure about the 32" positioning though. Re: Fly rod stripper guide

You're right, I don't know everything. Not even half of everything. But I do know that if you put your fly rod stripping guide a 32 inches past the butt, it'll work on any fly rod, with any type line, for any type casting and for any fly fisherman. And it'll work well on all accounts.

32" work fine for most.
But for me on Light rods it’s to much. On my 8’6" or 9´ Line 3 to 5 I put it around 28" or 29". ________________________________________ @+ Eric [www.emfishing.fr] Re: Fly rod stripper guide

That's probably because your line speed is less on the lighter rods.
A strong haul will result in overshoot relative to the stripper. Herb Re: Fly rod stripper guide

You could tape your stripper to the rod at different distances and see which felt/worked best for you. No need to take anyone else' s advice for your particular circumstances. Start at 32" and work up and down from that. No sense starting at 17" or 5'. Re: Fly rod stripper guide

I've used 32" but I also own a Scott Sector 8wt and on that rod the collector (a cerecoil 20) is 25 3/4" from the rear of the reel seat.
It works fine although is a bit cramped with two handed retrieves. Perhaps moving the heavier guides closer in lightens the swing weight a bit and also reduces strain on the first ferrule under heavy loads ? Something to consider. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
