Simple spiral bumper help

I was hoping for some help on my first simple spiral. Am I correct that when the stripper is offset slightly to prevent uneven line accumulation it pushes the bumper guide closer to the 180 guide in the optimal position? When I load the rod the bumper needs to be about 3.5" from the 180 guide, making it approx 6.5" from the 0 to keep the line off of the blank. I used a small single foot guide I had on hand from another build but I don't pass knots through the guides or anything so I guess I don't need to be concerned with size? It seems to be centered in the bumper.
Thank you for your help

Let the line flow when rod is loaded to desired degree be your guide for guide placement. Straighten out line flow under.

That's how I do it anyway... I am sure there are many other ways people may recommend.

I'd send you some guidelines on it but your email is hidden.

In the Simple Spiral the first guide is not offset. If you wish to do so, just put the bumper guide where ever it needs to be to keep the line from rubbing the blank. There should be no load on it, other than straight back into the blank.

Thank you Tom, I just assumed any type of spiral would benefit from a little offset? Would Tom offset the 0 if he were building simple(no longer simple I guess) spiral ha ha?

No as I don't typically have issues with line stacking. For some it's a matter of the particular reel and/or lure being retrieved, but even then, in that case you'd offset the guide to the opposite side that you're spiraling to.
