3D Printing Dragon scale underlay?

Hey All, first post here but been loitering around the site a long time. I was looking to do a dragon scale design on my next build and had a thought about 3-D printing the underlay cross hatching since I can print the exact ID dimension and length and taper for the rod. I was curious if anyone has tried this and if so how it worked. I also thought if the 3D print works you could do all sorts of textures under the wrap. Anyone tried or have thoughts on this?

Not sure if they have but can see no reason why it wouldn't work. You may have a great technique on your hands.

That is a great idea to keep perfect uniformity and also vary the scaling design to your desire.

Cool idea, you could even do non-linear scales to make it look more fishy.

I was just speaking with a guy i work with that uses fusion 360 for his 3D printer and he can do a thin sleeve and emboss what you want on it so you could create a lot of 3D effects. This will all add some weight so probably not for a build that weight is a factor. If I get this printed and I try it out I will post some pictures.

John,
While admittedly more of a minimalist and thus not a big fan of fancy butt wraps, I am intrigued with your ingenuity and its potential!!! Great idea!!! Please keep us posted!!!
