All,
Do the G2 casting grips match up with the Alps MVT casting reel seats?

Hey Derick,

The G2H casting grips will fit most 16 & 17 size reel seats. They were intended for just G2H AT reel seats. I have personally seen them used with many other manufacturers but there is no guarantee it will be configured properly. You are going to love those grips!

That is what is keeping me from purchasing. I need specs on the handles, not suggestions. I dont see any AT Reel seats that I like amd want to use an MVT reel seat. I'll keep digging to see if I can find the data I need.
Thank you,

Another way of looking at it, will the cork or eva grips from others work? All these companies see far more product sales to commercial clients than to us, it would be counter productive to make odd sized products. Companies buy in bulk, they don't want to have to store, or pitch other components because they no longer match up and can't be used, doing so would at times put you out of the running for selling components for next year's rod production. Trigger reel seats to size 20 routinely use the same diameter grips, there are a few oddballs out there, but the vast majority from AmTack, Pac Bay, Fuji, Batson, SeaGude and others use the same grip sizes. Just good business practice. The oddball design of the old Wiebe designs make you do a few extra steps if you were going to use them with a G2 grip, it's not the size, but the angle change needed the match arbor and tube to the offset design that would need to be copied. Edge has to do it to install their Black Widow tube grip.

The specs for those handles were easily found on Mud Hole, as well as on American Tackle's website. Both links are supplied in the left hand column of this forum.

Hopefully that doesn't classify as a suggestion <grin>

Let’s play 3 degrees of MVT since I’m yet to use an MVT in a build. My G2 is behind a PacBay GB16C exposed seat which is virtually identical to the Forecast version of the seat, externally. I’ve used that style from both of those as well as AmTak and Fuji interchangeably depending on what is available from the vendor I’m using at the time. Batson recommends the same trim ring for the Forecast exposed blank seat as the MVT which tells me that the rear of the seat has the same dimensions as most casting seats. The G2 will play nice with the MVT.
