Does using these guides allow for a reduction of the size guides used for a KR Concept rod? I was going to use the standard KL16H-> KL8H-> KL5.5M guides for my PB691MXF build.

Go to the Anglersresource.net site, left margin, and follow instructions. It depends on the line you plan to use. 16-8-5.5, if I remember right, is used with braids below 15pound test, but check. I always use 20-10-5.5 exc for ultra light to gain versatility for heavier lines and bigger reels. Weight difference is negligible and it's a long way from the tip. All the runners are the same regardless of reduction guide choice.

If I was using a reel larger than a 3000 or had a larger diameter spool I would use Michaels set up for the reduction train and 4mm micros for the running train. Build the rod to the reel you are using.

Ron, I would say the answer to your question is yes. The 20H based reduction train gives more versality. I usually use 4.5 runners, but 5's are fine. I have a 691 MLXF and its a peach.

I think Ron is questioning if he can step down one ring size due to the smaller ID of the Slim SiC ring. My novice answer is yes for the runners but not for the reduction guides. The runners are available in 0.5mm increments and so a size 4 or 4.5 may be the same ID as a size 5 Alconite. However, the stripper sizes are 4mm apart and too large of a jump = I think a size 12 stripper would be too small, even for the KR Concept.

The sic slim rings are not as thin as the Torzite rings. They may be very slightly thinner than the alconite rings. The old sic rings were slightly thicker than alconite rings. From what I understand, the new sic rings are less brittle than the old sic rings, and this allows for a slimmer ring to be deep pressed into the frame without cracking.

The PB691MXF is likely to never see anything heavier than 15lb braid. The 16 stripper will probably be fine.

While it' not likely to see heavier than 15lb. braid , it may well see mono or floro.

Thanks for everyone's input. I guess I will build this rod identical to the PB691MLXF rod I built last year using the KR Conept guides KL16H, KL8H, KL5.5M, KB4, KT4(X5) and a LG4 tip top.
