Hey guys are there many still using something like a Fuji or Forecast Skeleton Spinning seat? With all the new options we have does the old Skeleton seat get much use these days. I was planning to glue up some cork/burl patterns to turn an insert for the skeleton seat. Been awhile since I made a grip or insert. Any advice for the skeleton insert. Edited 1 time(s). I've used the Forecast Skeleton Spinning seat on all of the spinning rods I've built. (only 6 thus far) I use size 17, and on all but one of them I have used the woven graphite insert they have available. On the other (a rod I built as a gift for a friend) I used the cork insert they have available. For me personally, I have no reason to try another type. I like the looks with either insert, I find it to be comfortable to fish with, and it's easy to install. Re: Skeleton Reel Seats and Inserts

Great to hear my man! Last time i built with one it was with the cobra hoods. Was one of my favorite rods. Been contemplating turning a custom cork insert for awhile for that setup. Re: Skeleton Reel Seats and Inserts

I'm with David. I use Fuji or Alps. Both are nice...Alps a little more pricey but nice. For both the Fuji and alps you can buy different color graphite inserts and the Alps has different color hoods. Makes the spin rod stand out just a little but still durable. Re: Skeleton Reel Seats and Inserts

I just recently rough turned about 20 reel seat inserts from various acrylic and wood pen blanks. I'm just waiting to final turn and polish them after I decide whether to make the spin seats #16 or #17. I use skeletons from Pac Bay, Fuji, and Batson. I have some very nice colors and interesting patterns to choose my inserts from. I have made a few seats in the last year or two and they came out beautifully! One insert was turned from a piece of a old walnut gun stock, and another from a piece of scrap purple heart. I need to stock up on more skeletons!
