I’ve seen similar posts in fishing sights claiming that at one time Fenwick used power ratings to indicate deadlift capacity: 1 power=1 pound, 2 power = 2 pounds etc. the logic of this escapes me. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I saw this on another forum just yesterday, had not seen it before. The logic is, I believe, an attempt to provide objective power ratings that could be useful in selecting rods. While it may have been of limited value, it was at the time probably better than whatever else there was. It at least ranked their rods by power.

Fenwick's power ratings were relative to their product line. They did not necessarily coincide to a particular deadlift capability.

The Europeans use a system to measure how much weight it takes to bend the rod to 90 degrees, only thing I know of that uses dead weight.

Tom, so a Fenwick that was described by Fenwick as a one pound dead lift rod didn't have a one pound dead lift capability? Can you explain what the intent was if this is the case? I don't get it. thanks,

I have never heard Fenwick describe a rod that way. A one power rod was simply less powerful than a two power rod so on and so forth.

Right - the Fenwick power ratings did not indicate deadlift capacity. It was just a relative power scale for their rods.
