Fuji Black Components

Hi All,

I haven’t been on active on this board much so please excuse the redundancy of my question if it has been discussed heavily.

Can someone give me the overview of why Fuji has done away with the black alconites and black reel seat hoods.

Is there a plan to introduce any kind of black substitutes for these products? I know fazlites are the new budget friendly option to replace alconites, but why not find a solution for a black replacement guide? It bums me out that I have invested in dozens of rods with black hoods and black guides to seperate from the grey factory components and now they are no longer an option. Just want to ensure Fuji isn’t coming out with new BLACK products in the near future before I switchover to amtackle black components. Thanks in advance.

According to Fuji, they wanted a more ecologically safe process.

Fuji's black finish was comparable to an automotive finish and as such required special exhaust treatment and produced other inorganic byproducts that required special handling for disposal. The facility that coated the guides warned Fuji 3 or 4 years ago that changing environmental laws in China would have a substantial impact on their ability to continue a supply. I'm sure what that meant was "you can get them, but the price is going to be thru the roof". In the same time frame, Fuji signed on to a worldwide "Sustainable Development " agreement that basically supported manufacturers who grew their companies with an eye toward environmentally friendly expansion. Fuji's "We Love the Earth" slogan had been around long before any of this so it was not a big leap for them to want to be involved. The research that lead them to the new CC, BC and GM finishes not only offered a tough, corrosion-resistant finish, it met all the criteria of being "friendly", producing only small amounts of organic, easily disposed waste. All the finishes have undergone substantial improvement since the introduction. 99.9% of our customers have made the transition and are very happy with the performance and durability of the new finishes.

For repair and replacement work, both CRB and American Tackle offer black frame guides in many styles and shapes that can be used.
