I received this sad news just a few minutes ago. "Dr. Bill" was one of the clearest and sharpest minds I've known in the fishing industry. He was one of the most popular authors that have yet to appear in RodMaker and his valued contributions to fishing and rod building will outlive him by many decades.

.........

Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness we share the sudden loss of our beloved father, Bill Hanneman, who died peacefully at home on Dec. 12, 2020.

Our apologies for breaking the news via email rather than personally; however, we are still dealing with the loss and appreciate your understanding.

Sincerely,
the Hanneman family

Sorry to hear of the death of one of the great contributors to the science of building and understanding fishing rods.

Sad to hear, indeed. Every serious fly angler, and certainly all fly rod rod builders, shoudl read his Common Cents treatise. A huge contribution to the world of rod making. I found this informative obituary: [www.legacy.com]

Upon reading the obit it looks like a long life that was very well lived.

Thank you David, I'm really glad you informed us of the obituary. He was a lot deeper than I thought, and I thought he was pretty deep.

People often have a hard believing that anything simple can be any good. It was Dr. Bill's great gift, and his greatest failing perhaps, that he was intelligent to the point that he could make otherwise difficult things, simple.

His publications have expanded my knowledge one hundred fold! His absence from this craft will be greatly missed. A Pioneer if there ever was one!
