anyone built anything on this blank? Is the power really as high as the lure weight advertised? Id like to build it for ned rigs, tubes, micro jigs set up as spinning rod. Primarily throwing 3/16 and 1/4 oz max

I am not familiar with this particular Phx blank, but have much experience with X-fast action blanks/rods. One characteristic of X-fast actions is that they have a wider lure weight range than slower actions. The softer tip works well with the lighter lures while heavier lures are handled well as the tip flexes "out of the way" engaging the more powerful part of the blank. This may not be the best way to describe it, but they do have wider ranges of acceptable lure weights. I expect the blank will work fine with the range recommended, and will work well with what intend to use with it.

I have zero experience with Phenix blanks, so I can only pass on what I hare read on other rod building based message boards. There are guys that absolutely rave about the Phenix Feather blanks and how sensitive they are, but to a man, everyone of them says that Phenix blanks are over rated as far as their powers go. They all say they are about a half power lower than what they're ratings are.

I don't know what a half a power amounts to in their books though. Just passing on what I have seen them say.

Hello Josh.

The only Phenix rods I've built are the
FX601-1-B 6' 1-6# 1/32-1/4 fast (to me it seems a touch lighter but still has a good back bone)

MF611-1-B 6'1" 1-5# 1/32-1/8 moderate (seems right to me)

Both are quality blanks and have caught bass in the 8-9# class and thrown little poppers from my fly stuff (broke my fly rod and they were hitting poppers).

Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines.

Bob,

New Bern, NC.

I have built on the K2, Bass Recon 2 and the M1 blanks. The Recon Blanks are very dependable and just a good all around blank for bass and inshore saltwater. The M1 is great light blank and reads a lot like the Iron Feather as far as the build material (nothing about Toray). I had at least 3 M1 blanks break and I will not build on them anymore. The K2 blank is in the price range of the Iron Feather and I personally have a spinning rod made from the K2 TX-712L-S. I use 15# braid (6 lbs mono diameter) on a Shimano Nexave C3000HG. This is a strong and fast, light rod. I throw 1/16 to 1 oz lures with it and I know it will cast just a plastic tout and a hook with no weight. I have been spooled by jacks and the line broke off while the pole was bent. This is a great rod and very light. I would look at the K2 blanks because they have the lightness and finesse you are looking for without sacrificing strength and are an actual Toray blank. I don't think you would be disappointed. If you choose not go in that direction I would look at the NFC X-Ray DS-721-1 (X-Ray LMX) and save a little money with an American product.

I actually have a rod made on an xray ds721. Also one on a delta ds6107-1. Like both rods, but im looking for something a little more powerful than the 721. If I could find a high end blank comparable to the 6107-1 I'd be happy
