Building a rod for a friend and hope to take advantage of the NFC Sale.
He's looking for a +7'2" spinning rod - fishing 1/4 jig heads with 3-4" paddle tails with 10lb braid for Redfish in the creeks of North FL. I'm looking at these NFC Blanks SB722, SB724, MB733, and SJ732 If anyone has gotten their hands on any of these blanks, input is greatly appreciated. NFCs specks are difficult to interpret. Greatly Appreciated Re: NFC Blank Options-Input-Impressions

I’d take a look at the P704 or P703 also. I have the SJ732 and it could do for smaller reds. Call it an 8-12# medium light. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: NFC Blank Options-Input-Impressions

The P70X are popping rods so probably better for shrimp and popping corks or lures with treble hooks. Still they should get the job done as they were made for specs and reds.
The SJ should be the right call if he is strictly a jig guy. I would say they have the ratings reversed on some of the Xray models. I have the SJ 703, 732, and 736. The 732 is clearly more powerful than the 703. The butt diameter of my 736 matches what they list for the 725. As I mentioned I think the 732 could do but if I got into a 4#+ fish around cover I would want something more powerful. I'd look hard at the SJ 725. Check the ratings they give the 5 power SJ in other series (Classic or Bass). They are typically listing it as a 8-15#, 3/16-5/8 ounce. That sounds like about what I would want....unless his fish are smaller slot size. I don't have any of the MB blanks in hand yet but it is my understanding they run a little lower in power than the the SJ series. P.S. Rodhouse France has a neat comparing app that lets you see how the blanks bend under load and compare it to a blank you are familiar with. It shows the Xray SJ 736 as just a tad more powerful than a ST. Croix 2SW70MF...which would line up with a 10-20# rating. And yes, the impressions are favorable.....don't forget the carbon grips....and be patient.....and welcome back. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
