Hi,
I've ordered an MHX Metallic series blank, that called for a 5.0 tip top. How ever I've now realized that painted models require a 5.5 for the particular blank I ordered. I have order a 5.0 in error, so just wondering whether it is feasible to remove a little bit of the finish, assuming that the tip top I ordered will be a little small? 2.0mm vs 2.2mm Regards, Paul Farrell Re: Removing Paint from Rod Tip to fit Tip Top

You can scrape off a little paint if it's really close to being able to fit. Measure carefully how far the tip top should come down the blank and wrap a piece of tape at that point. I've found that a gray scotchbrite pad will make its way through the finish on those blanks pretty well, but sanding about 3/4" of the tip top can be tough. Another option is that you can use a razor blade held perpendicular to the blank to avoid slicing down into the fibers to carefully remove the paint. Re: Removing Paint from Rod Tip to fit Tip Top

Sure, scraping off the paint will work just fine. I have done it hundreds of times. Just don't cut the carbon fiber, so be careful.

Scrape, do not sand. If the removal of finish is enough to fit the tip, great. You're fine. If not, order the next larger size tiptop.

Thanks again,
Yep have decided to mask then scrape towards the tip. I'm in Australia, and I ordered the blank, guides and tip top from Mudhole last Friday morning (my time), and looks like I'll have it tomorrow. (Thursday in Oz). Thats less than a week to get something shipped 15,000km (9320.5679 miles) . Quite impressed. Cheers, Paul Re: Removing Paint from Rod Tip to fit Tip Top

You can also take something like a fork or a nail and work it in to the tube on the tip to open it up a little i have done that Re: Removing Paint from Rod Tip to fit Tip Top

don't keep a stock on hand , only order what I need , William Sidney AK Re: Removing Paint from Rod Tip to fit Tip Top

Blank and tip top have arrived and the fit perfectly.
Ran the verniers over the blank and the specs on Mudhole are inaccurate. Both tip and butt are smaller. Beginners luck! Cheers, Paul. Re: Removing Paint from Rod Tip to fit Tip Top
