Tape arbors under eva

I'm working on laying out a rod and the triangle eva grip I want to use is one or two masking tape wraps loose for the last three inches. I did not reem it, it's just the blank diameter and the manufacturers internal diameter. Could I put a couple masking tape arbors on, or will there be problems with the gaps between them if they don't get enough epoxy in them? I really like the eva grip.

David,
When I use masking tape arbors, I use 1/4 inch wide masking tape with about an 1/8th inch space between the rows of tape. I just insure that there is epoxy between the rows of tape for a secure assembly.

I have done this with many many rods and have not had a single failure.

Masking tape works well, is convenient and if encapsulated in epoxy leak proof and long lasting.

Take care

I wouldn't use tape, particularly under EVA. Instead, wind some size D or E wrapping thread up the blank along that loose portion. Sort of spiral it and allow the epoxy to soak into it. Then install the grip per normal.

I use masking tape under more than half of the EVA grip inlays I make, the last 15 years I've done them like this and never a single issue on several hundred. I do a diamond wrap with 1/4 or 1/8" tape.

If you are into weighing things, you'd be surprised how much is added when you build up an arbor under a full length grip. In your case 3" isn't going to matter too much regardless of what you use.
