Hey guys quick question, building on a IMMC73ML blank, but I do not have the blank on hand right now. Anyone have any idea on the reel seat size on an exposed casting seat. Seat will be around 11" from butt. Dont mind ordering a couple, but was wondering if anyone had it off hand.

Jay, I have a rod built on that blank, absolutely love it. I got the blank from Utmost and had them size the reel seat for me, and to be honest I didn't even look at what size they sent me. I went through my receipts and couldn't find the paper work on that blank. so ........ I went out to my garage and got the rod out of my boat and measured my rod. Now I do remember that the from the butt of the blank to the back of the reel seat is 10". I have an Alps MTV reel seat on the rod and have the thread barrel trimmed short, so the reel seat is only 4 1/8" long. I have it finished off in front with a little EVA nub and a trim ring. The measurement from the butt of the blank to where the blank comes out of the trim ring is 14 3/8" So that is where I took the measurement at.

It measure 10.48 mm. or .4135". The MTV reel seats are sized at the front of the reel seat. So my guess is the reel seat they sent me is a 10.5 mm. Wish I could find the paper to be sure, but alas, it's a no go. Where the manufacturer sizes the seat is going to play a pretty big role in what size you're going to need. Just for reference, I measured the blank in several places both ahead of the reel seat, and between the split grips, and it tapers .006" per inch of blank length. If you're going at 11" from the butt to back of reel seat, my guess is you're going to want a 10mm seat and ream it to fit.

Again, it depends on where the manufacturer of the seat sizes the seat at. THe front of the reel seat, or the back.

Hope it helps.

David you are the best!!! Cant thank you enough for the information. Been looking forward to this build for a while. I will be using the same reel seat the MVT. One of my favorites. Thanks again for the info, was really nice of you. My biats in storage, long winter ahead here in NY. Time to build some rods and pass the time between diapers and bottles.

Jay, glad I could help. I'm a northeastern Ohioan so my boat is in for the winter as well. I don't ice fish, but I'm a fan of winter. I gotta say I was really disappointed by the storm we just had go through. I live on the southern edge of the secondary snow belt, and we were supposed to get 3 - 5" of snow, with higher amounts as you got closer to Lake Erie. Well the folks up near Erie got their 12 - 18" and we folks down here got maybe ..... 3"? Major bummer. My truck is 4 wheel drive and I got some new Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus tires for it last year. Awesome tires but I haven't gotten to drive in any appreciable snow with them yet.

Was kind of hoping for more snow. Oh well ...... maybe next time.
