Blue halo 6wt

I’m trying to spec out the guides rod a blue halo 8ft 6wt. Their website recommends:
12mm
4
3
3
3
2
2
2
Tip top

Can I make them smaller to save weight and do the following;
12mm
4
3
2
2
2
2
2
Tip top

I was also thinking of going with REC guides to help save weight also. I may try single foot as I haven’t done a single foot fly rod.

What do you all think?

if it were my rod , i would use ten single foot guides..and probably a smaller butt guide..i,m not a fan of big stick-out butt guides..maybe a six or eight..

12 to 4 to 2's on out. You don't need all those different sizes.

I'm with Ben on a 12 mm being a bit large. I'd try a 10 mm.

For snake guides I'd think about a single #3 then #1s to the tip top. Size #1s are large enough to pass well tied knots when rigging the rod. The weight reduction, however, will be in the margins.

I'd also think about adding a snake guide and take a hard look at the static load tests and make test casts to help make that decision.

weight wise the single foot guides allow you to use a couple more guides over all which will give you smoother line flow and less need for big butt guides..jmo..
