How do you make that precise cut that fits up against the reel seat? Is there any trick to it other than sanding carefully?

Make yourself a template from thin sheet plastic. You can find it at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Lay it out on an existing grip set or seat and trim it to fit or maybe a hair over. Turn your grips then lay your template over and trim/sand. The plastic is thin enough to bend over the cork.

Trevor:

Do you think I would be better off going dremel and rasps/files after I get close with the Dremel or scroll saw and sanding paper?
