Now of course a purist would only use a Bamboo slide rod. No doubt why so many rod builders used them:)

My HP41CV retired my slide rule. I still think it is a fantastic calculator. Unfortunately only Radio Shack had the right batteries and they quickly leaked and ruined my calculator. One of these days I'll have to decide if I'm willing to pay the price to fix it. Not like I do any real engineering work anymore.

I have the Harbor Freight ones that Jay linked on the previous page. They work great. Like Jay said, we aren't building rockets lol

I am a retired machinist and the cheaper digital caliper will work just fine for what you are going to use it for. The higher end caliper necessary. That being said perhaps you can find one of the high end calipers on @#$%&. Bill
