Are there any techniques for finishing ferrules on multi piece fly rods without getting finish on the other connecting peice? Thanks.

Put a little plastic wrap over the male end and assemble it carefully. Apply finish even more carefully. 2 thin coats beat one that's too thick every time.

If you're careful you shouldn't be getting any on the male ferrule to begin with (finishing isn't that hard). If you use Lynn's trick with the plastic wrap, it'll be darn near impossible to get any on the male ferrule, and the plastic wrap will just pull off and away when you disassemble the sections.

I don't believe it's possible to get some "in" the male side. Just use enough to cover the thread. The plastic wrap will protect the inserted segment (male) should a bit of finish drip down the end of the "female" segment.

Quite a few blanks, like the CTS blanks for instance, don't need any thread reinforcement, or finish on their ferrules.

Interesting. The NFC blank I'm using has pretty stout ferrules. You can see them built up and I doubt the thread is adding much. I'm doing it for aesthetics at this point.

most if not all new blanks are reinforced at the FERRULES , saying that I am not sure if the blank I am using is new or old ??
so I still wrap all my ferrules . hard to break a old dog of old tricks an it don't hurt a thing an it makes me feel better , my 2 cts. ,

Well, I used plastic wrap over the male end and the sections came apart on the dryer. No serious damage to the finish. Second coat I just used tape. Never really got much epoxy on the tape. Probably over thought the process. Thanks for all the tips.
