Decorative wrap

Going to do a decorative wrap and this time I want to “hide” the two ends between the split grip handles to make it look like it is flowing out of the handles. I plan to use color preserver. Is that enough to lock the tread down so I can safely slide the Handle over it, or should I use a light coat of thread finish on it as well?
Thanks in advance Re: Decorative wrap

A coat of finish makes the most sense to me. Alcohol or acetone will dissolve any of the CP's I've used, so you run the risk of ruining your wrap while cleaning up stray adhesive. Re: Decorative wrap

Great idea, please offer some photos of finished product. How are guaranteeing the clearance? Re: Decorative wrap

One question, if you are doing a split grip, why would you go over the wrap? I've done it before and you are better off to drill the back grip to where it would go on from the rear of the blank and the mid-grip would go on from the front. If you are trying to do the front and rear wrap at the same time I would suggest that you don't as I have had issues with screwing up the wrap when you go over it with just CP on it, even with a single coat of finish you will end up with cork dust or deep scratches in the epoxy that you can never seem to get out. David - I do the "hidden" wraps all the time. Just do your wraps and put two coats of finish on them. Make sure the finish is fully cured then glue your grips on. Clean up the wraps real well after gluing. Re: Decorative wrap
