Looking for a suggestion on a blank. Looking for nothing special "just a fishing rod". Been years since I built anything for someone other than myself. I go full out and tailor things as exact as possible to my situation. Basic and multipurpose not really my thing. Anyways looking for 2 piece spinning on the high side of ml to low side med power. Mod fast but probable leaning towards a the fast end. Going to be a bobber and worm or jigging rod mainly.6 foot maybe 6 foot 6. Looking for durable and not expensive but not bottom of the barrel. Thinking 75 bucks top of my budget, closer to 50 would be better. I like rainshadow except past experience puts them a little heavier power than spec and their lower end blanks tend to run kinda heavy. Not ruling them out just something that may impact my decision. Otherwise wide open to any suggestions. Thanks. Re: Need Blank Suggestion

Pac Bay Traditions T2SP784-2 from Utmost Ent. to the left. The price listed is more than you'll pay, they also give a good deal on components and shipping. Re: Need Blank Suggestion

At 3 pieces, the Rainshadow SB781-3 could fit the bill as something portable and in the power and action range you are looking at. I built one for myself a number of years back to take alongside my SB720-4, but found that the SB720-4 did what I needed it to on its own. The SB781-3 was very much a nice general purpose rod, and I passed it along to one of my Upward Bound students who loved to fish. Re: Need Blank Suggestion

I have a couple of the SB720-4 as truck rods for myself. They are a good example of my thoughts of Rainshadow blanks running higher than speced power wise. I would consider this blank a ml approaching med not a light as they list it. Thinking the SB781-3 as being a med blank is going to fall heavier than I want. Also for simplicity sake want to stick with two piece. Rod will be a gift to a casual fisherman, actually fisherwoman. Re: Need Blank Suggestion

Utmost can also get the 2 piece Pac bay arctos blanks. A year or so ago, I believe it was a 5' 9" model, was quoted around $50. Re: Need Blank Suggestion

That is an excellent example of a blank of theirs that is incredibly powerful for the ratings they put on it. The 781 was definitely closer to its rating, but still a tad more powerful than the 720.
As Spencer mentioned, something out of the multipurpose spinning line from a number of manufacturers could very well fit the bill. They are typically designs with a small butt diameter so they won't have an aggressive taper and be overly powerful. They are intended as bobber fishing rods, often available in 2pc models and generally with a slower action. Re: Need Blank Suggestion

Any thoughts on RodGeeks. Looking at model C266MLF2 6' 6" ML fast action 4-10 1/8-3/8.Specs seem similar to a ST Croix from years back. Forget the model but it was my go to for anyone wanting just a fishing rod. Think it was only six foot. But seems like my options are limited in the 6 foot range. Never built on a Rod Geeks blank. Have not heard much good or bad about them. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
