Going to be building a 6 ft gaff with 3 in hook. Was wandering about handle placement? Re: Gaff building

Jerrod,
I don't know exactly what you mean by the question. A gaff has a hook on one end of the blank and a handle on the other end of the blank. As one would expect, use an appropriately sized handle and then use epoxy to glue it in place. I also do one more thing. I like to employ a safety strap on the gaff so, that with the safety strap on my wrist, If my hand slips off the handle when gaffing a fish, the fish is still in the grasp of my wrist. Take care Re: Gaff building

Hello Roger.
I hope your not gaffing any big fish, with that cord wrapped around your wrist, they will pull you right in. For smaller fish I guess it's fine. Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: Gaff building

Cord wont work as u need to put hand over hand to bring gaff in .. i do grips about arms distance if i was just holding gaff. About a 36” area bottom up. If i use cord i cover all 36” and then add 10-12” towards tip for second grip. If Eva i get a section towards butt. A section towards 36” mark and one closer to tip. Nothing to near tip to drag in water. Just enough to be able to choke up on gafff and get it over side of boat Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
