Hey all. Just did the first epoxy coat on my first rod. How long should I wait between coats? Thanks.

As soon as the first application is no longer "wet" and won't grab your brush, you can apply a second application. This would normally be a few hours, perhaps 6+ depending on the temperature in your finishing area.

Thanks. It's in my garage above 80 degrees. Is there a good way to test it without touching it to see if it's ready for another coat? Re: Epoxy wait times

Pro Kote takes longer to cure than any other epoxy I've tried, suggest waiting overnight. It will still be tacky, but not wet or grabbing the brush. Re: Epoxy wait times

when you do apply epoxy to your build ,always put a test spot or 2 on something for your testing ,
to find out if it is hard or soft ., it will save your butt , no finger prints on your build , I think William Sidney AK Re: Epoxy wait times

Consistent epoxy cure time will occur if you carefully mix the correct ratio of resin and hardener and keep the ambient conditions in a convenient range.
Over time you will get a feel of how long the epoxies take to set up and cure. As mentioned above it is best to test epoxy in the mixing dish before touching the rod. I like to play safe I usually wait 24 hours or more after I check the cure in the mixing dish before I handle the rod. As the build progresses you have to be MORE careful and DOUBLY conscious of each operation. You don't want to goof up the last operation and have all your effort go to waste. It was mostly cured after about 9 hours. I went ahead and did the second coat. Happy with the results. Thanks for the advice. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
