I am just doing research for my next rod build. I looked at a site that featured American Tackle Microwave glides, and saw that the MW12 series is designed for both casting, and fly rod applications. Has anyone used this product on a fly rod, and if so, what is your critique of the product?

Robert
I've used them on a 6 and a couple 10 weights. Functionally they work well as you would expect from ATC. Aesthetically they look odd to a traditionalist on a fly rod - sort of "chunky". Think they are best suited to 9 and 10 weight carbon fiber rods in lieu of 2 strippers of more traditional design, and to lighter 6 - 8 weight glass rods where the blank diameters vs the MW12s are far less an aesthetic issue (to my eye anyway). I have not built with them, however I can see a purpose on heavier rods where you are "shooting" line on long casts. Otherwise no real purpose. Re: MIcrowave MW12 on fly rods

Robert, I haven't used them on a fly rod yet myself but have several spiral wrapped casting rods with them. Personally I really like the aesthetics. I think the same as mentioned above as long as it fits the aesthetic your going for, it will certainly perform! Re: MIcrowave MW12 on fly rods

Robert,
I have used the 12/6 Microwave Strippers on 3, 4, and 5 weight rods, and the 18/8 on 5 and 6 weight rods. I now use them on every fly rod I build because they do such a good job passing the line along to the running guides. I even had to modify my casting because I was suddenly overshooting my targets! They are that good! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
