fishing shoes

i know this is a rod building forum. However, I know that everyone here is an avid fisher person. So I hope htis question will work on this forum. i am looking at purchasing footwear for fishing. I will be only wading easy water, no rapids, or chest deep water as I did in my youth. I will be mostly fishing from stream, or lake banks, or from docks, or piers. I am considering water shoes versus wading boots, as the water isn't really cold, (just cold enough for brookies). From what I've researched, water shoes come with non-slip soles that will work on moss covered rocks, and on wet surfaces, proved good foot support, and are half the cost of wading boots.

Does anyone have experience with using water shoes as fishing footwear?

I sometimes use them in summer while wet wading. Have not found any that will really handle mossy rocks well, and of course they do not support your ankle.

Go with a good pair of wading boots w/cleats. (Frogg Toggs ..$30-$50.. on the low end will do you well...you can add cleats)
I tried the wading shoes for a number of years (Thank you Lord, that it was when I was a youngster) and busted my B-hind a number of times. After looking up at the blue sky one day I told myself," One of these days I won't be able to get back up on my own."

- wading boots w/cleats (I don't believe those non-slip soles work. Technology ain't there yet...hit some of that 'green-moss and tell me they work and I still won't go cleat less)
- wading pole (fold-able)
- SPOT rescue beacon (optional...some places the cell will not work)

Just saying from an ole guy.

Robert,
Just pick up an inexpensive pair of crepe soled boots and use these for wading.

Inexpensive and they work well.

I just use an old pair of sneakers in the summer, and a walking stick. In the spring and late fall Frogg togg felt bottom, and a walking stick

Lookup this shoe by Skechers #204112. It's called the relaxed fit Tresman Rivero men's sandal.

I travel a lot and need a light pair of wading boots for my bag. The Soft Science Terrafin lace up wading boot is very light with a Trileon sole that really clings to slippery rocks without cleats or felt. They also dry faster than any boot I have ever owned. I have used them from Patagonia to Wyoming. I fish a lot of saltwater at home and use the Soft Science Fin fishing zip up boot an sandy bottoms or shell reef, and they do not mark up my boat and don't get a bunch of shell or sand in them. I used to wear Basspro wading booties with felt soles for wet wading but they only last one season. They quit selling the felt soled ones and the rubber soled ones are no good on slimy rocks and don't last anyway. I now wear Chaco wading shoes but they also aren't good on slimy rocks but they last a long time.
