I have a performed EVA foregrip. I did not like the shape of the edges just too square. I basically just wanted to break the edges a bit. I used a long bolt as a mandrel and a hand drill to spin the grip. Everything worked fine as far as shaping goes. However the finish did not match the rest of the grip. So I lightly sanded the whole grip to blend everything in. Nice and even looking. But I am not liking the finish of the grip much now. Not shiny exactly but it is not that dull kinda of dirty looking black that EVA typically is.

Wonder how I can possibly dull the grip to the original finish. I used 400 grit. Would a coarser grit get me back to the usual EVA look?

Yes - if you drop back to about 220 you will likely restore the slightly coarser finish and texture to the grip. EVA doesn't need to sanded to as high in paper grits as materials such as cork.

I found Drywall Sandpaper works great. It doesn't build up with the sanding dust, is available in 100 grit, and then I use a 220 or 400 grit to smooth everything out. The dry wall sand paper is available at Home Depot or Lowe's. Try it ....Mickey" you'll love it!

In my experience.....if you finish it with higher grit paper it won't hold the fish slime and guts as much. After 400 grit I suggest an old piece of denim jeans at fairly high speed to "burnish". Sort of the exact opposite of what you are seeking.

Same to all of the above. 150 gives a rough finish. Say longer hair. I shape with 150. Fine tune with 220 the polish up with 400 ive even gone as high as 1000 grit. Gave almost a silk finish.

The correct way to finish sand EVA is with a Scotch Brite type fine sanding pads like 3M Ultra Fine sanding pads. These are only to give it that correct finish that looks right and not to shape. Use them after the regular 220 grit. Also use a light touch with EVA because it can overheat and begin melt when shaping. [www.homedepot.com]
