Anyone have experience with this blank?

Are you positive it's a RainShadow? Any other details on the decal?
Because that part number doesn't match any other Rainshadow part number over the last 20 years (our system for numbers is different than this).

Thanks for the responses guys. I think they were introduced in 2011. Won't work for what I want to do anyway. I'm looking for a 7ft. blank that will handle 2.5oz. To be used to jig for lakers with 6" tubes on 1-1.5 oz jigheads. I'm out of my league here. Also need to use carbon fiber split grips, so that limits but dia. I'm looking at MHX MU-84M on their light saltwater- heavy freshwater page. Mhx shows it, Mudhole does not. I'm hoping if that's the one I decide on, Mudhole can get it for me. Hard to tell if it might not be too stiff also. I got about 2 hairs left to pull out, but I'll get to them!

Although you used the words, "won't work for what I want to do anyway" I suspect that the advice that James from Batson is right on with his recommendation and yes, thay rod will indeed work very well for lakers.

But, if you choose not to use this excellent blank, it is your choice.


I have built a lot rods based on the RX8 blanks and the folks have Batson have never steered me wrong.

Roger, I have it on good authority that this blank is not my best option for the intended use. Batson did not recommend the blank. Love Batson blanks.

6" of tube and 1.5oz of lead ain't light for sure. Are you casting or vertical jigging with these? The little I know about lake trout other than the fact that they exist is that they live in deep water. A typical mag bass blank in 1/4-1 or 3/8-1 1/2 oz would surely be able to vertical jig those lures, but not cast them. Have you looked into backbounce blanks? I know they tend to be a bit longer at 8', but I believe that guys like Forhan used them for casting larger plastics in that weight range for the bass fishing community.

Joe, you nailed it. Vertical jigging, have decided to go with a American Tackle Matrix AMMBC846 from Ron Schneider's close out page. He assures me that it will do the job if used with a little discretion. I need to stay at 7 ft. and need to use carbon fiber split grips and so am up against some issues from a measurement standpoint. Hard to find a 7 ft. blank rated for 2.5 oz.s He also had the RX-8 blank mentioned above but thought this one a better fit. He thinks the matrix will handle 2 oz.
