1 weight fly rod

I have a friend that is needing a 1 weight fly rod in a 6’ or 6’6” length. I’m having a difficult time finding a blank. I found a “zero weight “ fiberglass blank while poking around on the internet but can’t remember what sight it was on. Anyone know of a decent 1 weight blank?

Look at spinning rod blanks in that length. Look for something that has a casting lure weight range of up to 1/4 ounce. No more.

Built 2 a couple months ago, but both were 8', 4 piece carbon fiber. I don't care for the short rods, even for ultra lights.

Send me an email and I'll send you a link to the vendor if you are interested.

TFO makes a 6 ft. 9 in. in their Finesse series. I have a 6 ft. 10 in. Dan Craft, it is almost to short and one of my least used rods. Prefer 3 wt. for the light stuff.

Thanks Spencer for tip on TFO. I will take a look. The fellow I’m building the for takes it on trips and needs a travel rod. I built him a 2 weight 4 piece a couple of years ago and he loves it. I used a Batson Revelation blank and 2 weight is as small as they make

Sounds like a good solution and then to make it a four piece, add ferrules of some kind? Or are you suggesting to just have a one piece rod built as a fly rod?
Thanks

Of course you indicate you are dealing with a request, but personally I find no need for a fly rod less than a 3wt. I have an old SAGE LL 4wt at 8 1/2 feet that well feels the fight and delicacy of a 5 inch trout and use it for tiny brookie and cutthroat streats. I really don't see a need to go below 7 1/2 oir 8 ft in rod length. But that is just me. Good luck. These are very nice rods: [store.hookhack.com]

A fly fisherman who wants a 1 wt. fly rod should at least be familiar with a tenkara rod as an alternative choice. They are simple but deadly on small fish in small waters.

Lately I’ve been building a lot of short light line fly rods for folks who fish super small streams. Message me I can probably help you find that blank.

Over the years, we have sold Batson Forecast fiberglass "SPG" blanks for small stream rods.
The 6' and 6.5' SPG 720, 721, 780, 781 have been the most popular.

Brian at Old English in Florida sells a 2wt 6' that erns out to be a 1wt . It's a cool little blank . If wiggly is what he wants this is the rod for him . I know of a few people other than myself that have built them and they are really happy with them . Mark at RDP has 0 thru 3 in 6' IM 6 blanks . I have built three of them and they are great blanks and has a very good warranty program . Also , Bens of Holland makes a 6' 1wt blank . Good luck .
