Fishing rod advertisers promote imagination, not reality, and feelings, not facts. They are NOT alone among product manufacturers. Re: Intrinsic Power - Blank vs Finished Rod

This is a very interesting thread! To me it is very obvious that custom rod builders desire data, much more than the customers (fishermen) for fishing rods. And, as custom building is a small subset of rod building, it is not likely that manufacturers and/or distributors are going to spend time and money to completely satisfy this small subset.
The marketing of rods and blanks are not a lot different than that of many or even most products. How many car buyers actually seek or even care about data like, cu in displacement, ft lbs of torque or wheel base. Yet this data is readily available to buyers. What most care about are things like, looks, comfort and handling, all unquantifiable! As I only build fly rods, my exposure to customers for other types of rods is nil. My fly rod customers mostly focus on casting characteristics, some on power, when for heavier or strong species such as Steelhead or saltwater. Data such as AA or IP means nothing to them, thay are relying upon my experience and knowledge. I very rarely use CCS. Re: Intrinsic Power - Blank vs Finished Rod

Phil, I'll bet wine labels drive you nuts. I think that the same people are involved in writing wine labels and fly rod advertisements. Re: Intrinsic Power - Blank vs Finished Rod

Michael, I hope you message is addressed to Phil Ewanicki, as I have no problem with any marketing terms be it wine or rod blanks. Spent my career in marketing! Remember, nothing happens until someone sells something! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/29/2020 09:59PM by Phil Erickson. Re: Intrinsic Power - Blank vs Finished Rod

Yup, should have said Phil Ew. Marketing what, Phil Er? I don't think we'll ever have a CCS system for wines; the current marketing terms will have to do. ...fresh grass, a little mineral in the finish. . .extra fast. . . Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
