St. Croix Extreme rods at ICAST.

Saw a picture of the new Extreme series St. Croix rods, looks like they are using the graphite guides, they may be right around the corner for everyone.

Stcroix website lists them as Daiwa AGS Carbon Fiber Guides. Carbon fiber frame some type of insert. Did not dig real deep. Casual web search shows they have been around for a few years now maybe 2014 or so on diawa rods. Guessing they sold rights to St Croix. I am surprised we are not seeing polymer guides yet. They have been using polymer for hard use applications in the firearm industry for years. Would be lite and inexpensive.

Graphite fiber plates are used for body armor - it's pretty tough stuff.

Agreed they are tough but if they are too rigid they could snap I guess. Just a thought never used or seen them.

They are not designed to be very flexible, which is a shame. From that standpoint they offer no real advantages over metal ringed guides other than being non-corrosive.
