questions: alps skelton seat tips; reselling guides

New rod builder here with a couple of questions...

I'm building a rod with an Alps skeleton seat. What are folks using on the grip side of the barrel to close it offl? I know fuji has the WCS winding checks for their barrels, but does Alps have anything similar to self-center and fit flush to the OD of their barrel? The aluminum winding checks don't have a self centering edge and don't fit flush with the OD of the barrel and -- at least with the end facing the trigger -- I'd like something more like the WCS for comfort in griping around the blank. What am I missing?

Also, do folks resell guides that didn't work out well but can't be returned? I built a rod with size 5s and have some issued with leader easily passing through -- even with an FG knot. If I strip them off and rebuild is there a market for these on the B/S page?

Maybe, but most builders just toss them in a box and eventually use them on a subsequent rod project. Of course you're welcome to try to sell or swap them on the Buy-Sell page if you wish.

Alps TRC is the trim ring that you would want for the casting seats, I believe. In general the trim rings across the brands tend to be interchangeable for the standard design seats. There are a few oddballs out there that are a little unique in their geometry and those tend to have specific trim rings associated with them.

WCS checks might work. They work in the least expected places at times. A size 17 will terminate a Fuji 16 tvs seat if installed uplocking. (no foregrip)

Mr. Page,
The checks you're seeking for that threaded barrel are the FBWC (rubber) or FAWC (aluminum) and can be viewed at the links below. These all match the O.D. of the threaded barrel regardless of I.D. size selected. They do not self center by design, as the centering lip can prevent use in certain handle configurations.
