What particular qualities should a rod blank have for the use you anticipate?

One of my favorite techniques is swimming grubs and my experience that the action used for swimming single open hook lures is that just about any action will work as long as you have enough power to set the hook and recover the fish. I’ve been successful with moderate, fast, and extra fast actions. For lighter lures I personally prefer extra fast actions and for lures in the range you are looking at a fast action works well.

The benefit of an extra fast action is that the tip is a bit mor lumber to cast lighter lures compared to the rod’s power. A blank like the MHX MB844 will load just fine with the lures you are casting. When working near heavy weeds you are more likely to high stick a rod to keep the fish up and out of the weeds. The softer tip and higher lock up point in the blank will make an extra fast action more susceptible to breakage. A fast or moderate action rod is better suited to your usage in my opinion. For fishing the paddle tails around rock piles or the edges of grass and brush piles you might find the extra fast blank a great fit.

At the end of the day the choice is yours. The power of the rod should be good for the application and as long as you are mindful with how you handle the rod it will perform the task just fine.

It’s one thing to ask a question and be sincere in your interest, however; when you continually ask the same redundant questions over and over it tends to annoy people who have an interest.

My Shikari PMB 704, which I guess would be classified as a MH, fast action rod, is serving me well when fishing paddletails. See no reason why you'd have a problem with your selection. The Xfast tip should let you cast well into the lower weight specs of the blank.

I know what qualities I want in a rod so if you asked me my answer without reservation is;

I anticipate my rod to have the ruggedness of a granite mountain, the weight of gentle summer breeze, the eye appeal of ocean sunset, the resilience of a darting cheetah, the strength of an ocean wave, the sensitivity of a gentle kiss from my wife,

the endurance of a marriage of 55 years, perform as a symphony orchestra and make my eyes mist up each time I land a fish.

I haven’t totally gotten there I am heading towards my 56th year.

Someone recommended a Rainshadow Judge blank. I know it's not MHX.

I think it depends a lot on what line you will use. With braid, I think a slower action model like the Judge will serve you well with moving baits. If using mono or fluoro, there is already plenty of give in the system and you may prefer a faster rod.
