Building a king salmon rod for a friend using this reel. Rod blank can accommodate down to a size 17 seat but I'm pretty sure the reel wont fit. Does anyone know the smallest seat that this reel fits. I know a 22 will work for sure but I'd like to do 18 or 20 if possible. Dont have access to reel.

i would think for sure a 20 will work, i just put a saltiga 10k on a rod with a dps-20 on it last night, and i think thats a similar sized reel, a touch lighter

put a 6000 shimano on another rod with a dps 18 as well and both fit perfect

size 22 is rather large, ive never held a cabo 60 hopefully that provides some perspective

I went with a 20 after talking with some people. 18 probably would have worked too but didnt want to chance it without reel in hand.

I built a rod for a Cabo 60 and used a DPSD-22
I chose the reel seat for comfort in hand not to fit the reel
The reel seat is glued straight on the bank but with the last turn to tighten the reel to the reel seat, the reel would go slightly askew and no longer line up with the guides
This is the only reel I've had such an issue with
I solved the problem by grinding the reel foot, every so slightly, at the ends to decrease the width of the reel foot at the very tips.
In general I have found spinning reel feet and reel seats are fairly universal and all fit - at least from 17mm to 22mm/24mm seat and reels from 3000 size and up
I know many people with Cabo 60s that put them on all types of production rods and I have never heard of a fit issue
